Greg Moga is a native of Chicago who came to Seattle for the first time for a conference in 1995. One day in Seattle was enough for Greg to phone home and say to his wife Mary, “We’re moving. I’ve found where we need to live.” Six months later, their family, including 5 children, a dog and a turtle, were all on their way to a new home in Seattle. They have looked back on that move as one of the best decisions of their lives.
Greg’s passion for the parks began with his love of the prairies of the Midwest. He still owns farmland in Bloomington, in north central Illinois, where he has worked with the Nature Conservancy to create demonstration wetlands that greatly reduce nitrate pollution into the Illinois River. Since moving to Seattle, he has served on four environmental non-profit boards, including the Board of Washington’s National Park Fund since 2007, and he is currently the Board President.
Greg has favorite trails in all three parks. At Mount Rainier, Indian Henry’s Hunting Ground via the Longmire Trail; at North Cascades: Ross Lake; and at Olympic: the High Divide Loop (7 Lakes Basin). He says “Please join me on a hike anytime - and please join me in supporting the 3 national parks in Washington State. I can’t imagine a better place to hike, and to live, and of a better cause than Washington’s National Park Fund.”
