Carolyn Dobbs
Faculty Emerita, The Evergreen State College
Olympia, WA
Carolyn Dobbs has been a member of Washington's National Park Fund's Board of Directors for seven years. The parks are important to Carolyn because she believes everyone should have affordable access to our national environmental treasures and cultural heritage sites. For this reason, she knew it would be important to be involved with Washington's National Park Fund. She said, " I became involved with WNPF because of the opportunity to work with others to expand public awareness of and support for our state's national parks."
Carolyn grew up in rural Arkansas and developed an early love for the environment by exploring the Arkansas Ozarks. Her great-grandparents lived on a farm and allowed her lots of time to explore bottomlands and woods. Her love for the environment only grew stronger, and she has dedicated more than 40 years to education in this area at The Evergreen State College where she is Faculty Emerita.
During the hiking season, Carolyn can be found in Mount Rainier National Park at least once a week. She has a particular interest in observing bears and hopes to also observe wolverine. She is also involved with Vital Ground Foundation and their focus on preserving grizzly bear habitat.
Carolyn often takes visiting friends and family along on her hikes near Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park.
