Karen Gustin - Olympic National Park

Karen Gustin has been superintendent at Olympic National Park since July 2008 and this is her 11th national park assignment. Her career has taken her from Guam to Alaska, and from Michigan to Florida. A native of Northbrook, Illinois, Karen credits the Girl Scouts with introducing her to nature, including her first camping experience.

She studied forestry and outdoor recreation at Colorado State University (Fort Collins) and decided on a career in conservation because of her time as a Girl Scout.

She describes Olympic National Park as “the bees’ knees” and, on a more serious note, will tell you she is humbled by the opportunity to lead one of the most magnificent national parks in the west. On a personal note, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, doing anything outdoors, but most specifically, riding her horse with her daughter.
